Attorneys for Rashad Murphy filed an amended memorandum on Friday (March 6), addressing how evidence could be used in the ongoing murder case of Jacksonville rapper Foolio.
According to the filing, the court previously indicated that evidence connected to Murphy’s co-defendants in a separate shooting could potentially be used against all defendants if the judge determines the incidents are “inextricably intertwined” with Foolio’s killing. Murphy’s legal team argued that Florida law requires courts to evaluate the relevance and potential prejudice of evidence for each defendant individually in joint trials.

“Florida law requires a defendant-specific relevance and prejudice analysis in joint trials,” Murphy’s attorneys wrote in the motion. “Rashad Murphy respectfully submits this supplemental memorandum to address that issue.”

Murphy is one of five individuals charged in connection with Foolio’s death, alongside Alicia Andrews, Isaiah Chance, Sean Gathright, and Davion Murphy.
Foolio, a Jacksonville rapper, was shot and killed by three masked gunmen while celebrating his birthday in Tampa, Florida, on June 23, 2024.
In a related development, Alicia Andrews—who prosecutors say tracked Foolio’s location with her boyfriend Isaiah Chance and relayed it to the shooters—was found guilty of manslaughter in November. She is currently scheduled to be sentenced on December 8.
