Trump Called Out: Noem’s Team Says White House Story Doesn’t Add Up

The drama inside the Trump camp just took another turn.

Allies of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem are pushing back hard after President Donald Trump announced she’ll be stepping down from her position at the end of the month and they’re not staying quiet about what they say really went down behind the scenes.

According to Daily Caller reporter Reagan Reese, sources close to Noem say she had growing frustrations with the Trump White House. One administration official told Reese that Noem complained she wasn’t getting the support she needed from the administration toward the end of 2025.

The source claims Trump initially stepped in to smooth things over, and for a short time things improved. But the situation reportedly went downhill again after federal agents shot and killed two Americans in Minneapolis an incident that insiders say left Noem feeling like the White House threw her under the bus.

Now the biggest dispute revolves around a $220 million advertising campaign that featured Noem heavily. Trump has publicly claimed he had no knowledge of the campaign, but one official speaking to Reese says that’s simply not true.

According to that source, the White House knew about the ad deal, and senior officials were allegedly involved in approving the funding behind it.

Trump directly pushed back on that claim during comments to Reuters on Thursday, flatly denying he had any awareness of the campaign.

Not everyone inside the administration is buying Noem’s side of the story, though. Another official dismissed the accusations entirely, calling it “laughable” that Noem is trying to shift blame for what they described as her own self-inflicted problems.

Meanwhile, more details surrounding Noem’s exit continue to surface.

Fox News correspondent Jacqui Heinrich reported that Noem’s removal came after what sources described as a string of leadership failures, including the Minneapolis situation, the controversial ad campaign, and allegations of an affair with longtime Trump ally Corey Lewandowski, who has also reportedly been pushed out.

Noem had previously been questioned by Congress about a $200 million border security ad campaign that prominently featured her riding on horseback near Mount Rushmore. During that hearing, she claimed the president had approved the campaign something the White House now disputes.

Heinrich also noted that Noem never directly denied the allegations surrounding Lewandowski.

With accusations flying from both sides, the situation is quickly turning into another messy political fallout and it’s clear this fight inside Trump’s circle is far from over.
